Rabbi Henry Cohen was an interpreter, Rabbi, community leader, volunteer, soldier in WWI and author. After moving to Galveston, the 1900 Storm he served on the Central Relief Committee. He became nationally know for his work and help with immigrants. In 1907 he helps start Galveston's Jewish Immigrant Information Bureau. During WWI he was able to get Congress to provide Jewish naval chaplains. In 1926 Governor Dan Moody appointed Henry to Texas Prison Board. He wanted to move hardened criminals from first time offenders, improved medical facilities and job training. His plans were incorporated at a later date.
