He was born on April 11, 1927 in rural Whiteside County, the son of Leonard and Emily (Gruber) Bennett. He married Janet R.Verbout on March 19, 1949 at Sacred Heart Church in Sterling. She died August 11, 2015. He was employed in the office at Frantz Mfg Co in Sterling for over 47 years. He served in the US Navy for 3 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling and served on the finance committee for several years. He was a past member of the Sterling Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Sterling Rotary Club.
