Retired CWO-4 Lee Roy Jennings, a 30-year Navy veteran having served in the Pacific during World War II, died June 1, 2000, in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He was 84.


Mr. Jennings, originally from Petersburg, Va., was a longtime resident of Lake Smith Terrace, Virginia Beach. His naval career as an electrician included serving aboard the USS New Mexico from 1933 to 1938, the USS Gridley from 1940 to 1942, the USS Benham from 1939-1940, the USS Nields, 1943, and the USS Tennessee, 1944 to 1946, during which time he participated in the Battle of Okinawa and the Battle of Iwo Jima.


He is survived by three daughters, Joan Jennings Brown of Fairfax, Va., Vicki Jennings Williams of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Diana Jennings Misiaszek of New Orleans, La.; and four grandchildren, Ryan and Aaron Brown and Hilary and Darren Williams.


A burial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach.
