Wanda Abernathy Holland, 53, of Valdese, died Friday September 10, 2010 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Wanda was born February 4, 1957 in Burke County, a daughter of Robert and Irene Rector Abernathy of Valdese. She was a member of East Valdese Baptist Church, the Fraternal Order of Police, The NC Womans Law Enforcement Association and for many years served as a Girl Scout leader. She was retired from the City of Morganton as a Public Safety Officer.
She was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Kirk Holland and a brother, Ronnie Abernathy.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband, William 'Bill' 'Poncho' Perry Holland, , of the home, two daughters, Christine Harris Young and husband, Albert L. Jr. of Rutherford College, Stefanie M. Holland of Valdese, a son, William Perry Holland, Jr. of Valdese, three brothers, Carl Abernathy of Valdese, Wayne Abernathy of Morganton, Charles Abernathy of Glen Alpine, five sisters, Edena Farmer, Bertha 'Sunny' Vanderbloeman, Arlene McNeely all of Morganton, Janet Forester and Bernice Abernathy both of Valdese. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Camden, Farrah, and Brady Young, Desirae Holland and Ian Brittain.
