Dorothy Evelyn Gentry Lumpkin, 80, passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, in a Georgetown hospital. A memorial service celebrating her life and the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the First United Methodist Church of Marlin, with pastor Howard Whiddon officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born in Italy, Texas, to the late Roy and Mamie (Parten) Gentry. She graduated salutatorian from Italy High School in 1943. She went on to earn a B.B.A. degree and an M.S. degree in economics from Baylor University. In 1943, Dorothy married Enos Lumpkin, of Avalon, Texas. They moved to Marlin in 1948. Dorothy was a homemaker and a high school business teacher. In the 1950's and early 60's, she worked in the office of the Falls County School superintendent under Mr. Robert Burton. After receiving her teaching certificate, she instructed over a generation of Marlin High School students in accounting, bookkeeping, and typing. She was employed by the Marlin ISD for a total of 36 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Marlin First United Methodist Church, serving over the years in many capacities, and was especially active in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Learners Club and Delta Kapa Gamma Society teacher's organization.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Enos Lumpkin, on Feb. 6, 2001; and her brothers, Roy and Bill Gentry.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Will and husband, Richard, of Georgetown; son, George Lumpkin and wife, Brenda, of Lampasas; grandchildren, Shannon Will, Steven Will, Angela Lumpkin, Daniel Lumpkin, and John Lumpkin; sister, Bobbie Whiteaker and husband, Bill, of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Mildred Gentry, of Italy, Texas; nephews, Ken Philips, Danny Gentry, and Bob D'Allesandro; and many other family members and friends.
