Seaman S. Smith, 65, of Rapid City flied Tuesday at Munson Medical Center. The son of the late Charles and Mary (Beebe) Smith, he was born in Grand Traverse County on July 4, 1911. On Jan. 7, 1945, at Bay City, he was married to Evelyn Fry who survives. A retired mechanic, Mr. Smith had lived in the Rapid City area the past 23 years and was a former member of the South Torch Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by a son, Seaman Carl of Rapid City; four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Gloria) Baggs of Elk Rapids, Mrs. Lynn (Linda) Forward and Jacqueline Smith, both of Rapid City, and Patty Smith at home; a brother, Glenn of Pinconning; three sisters, Mrs. Zell (Lula) Davis of Rudyard, Mrs. Agnes Marley of Wayland, Mrs. Frank (Estella) Miller of Williamsburg; two half-sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Smith of Eckerman and Mrs. Manella Sitch of Flint; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Three half-brothers. William, Ed _and Bill, and a half-sister, Laura Bell Tebedo, preceded him in death. The funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Schwartz-Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska, with the Rev. Ron Horn officiating. Burial will be in Clearwater Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
