DEATH SUDDENLY CALLS REV. RICHARD O'NEILL
Rector of St Michael's, Frostburg.
Expires at Allegany Hospital, Where He Was Under Observation.
The Rev Richard O'Neill, aged 64, for the past seven years rector of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, died, suddenly this morning at 7:30 o'clock at Allegany Hospital where he had been under observation and treatment. He had been feeling badly for about two weeks and entered the hospital Tuesday. Father O'Neill went to Frostburg from St Patrick's Church, Baltimore. He had previously been pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. He succeeded the late Rev Stephen J Clarke as pastor at Frostburg. Just this week the Rev John A Quinn, who was ordained Tuesday, was appointed assistant to Father O'Neill at Frostburg. Since the transfer of Rev John J Donlon to Brunswick, St Michael's Church had no assistant and priests from Sts Peter and Paul Monastery, Cumberland, had assisted at St Michael's. Father O'Neill .had been a priest 32 years. He was first stationed at Immaculate Conception, Washington, for two years. Then he went to St. Patrick's where he was assistant for 20 years. From St Patrick's he was sent to Frostburg. He was a classmate of Rev Thomas E Gallagher, pastor of St Peter's Church, Washington. The body was taken to Frostburg this afternoon and will remain at St. Michael's parochial residence until Monday morning, when it will be removed to the church, where it will lay In state until the hour of the funeral. Burial wilt be In St. Patrick's cemetery, Mount. Savage. Father O'Neill is survived by two brothers, William and James O'Neill, Baltimore, and one sister, Miss Mary O'Neill, Mount Savage. Father O'Neill will be remembered for his last public appearance in Cumberland. he attended the dinner at the Fort Cumberland when the Jewish Relief campaign was launched and was a liberal contributor.
