Elroy “Allen” Hodem, 85, of LaMoure died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the Oakes Community Hospital.

He was born April 21, 1931 in LaMoure, ND to the late Henry and Eleanor (Haugen) Hodem. Allen attended country school through eighth grade and graduated from LaMoure High School in 1949. Allen was united in marriage to Katherine Ketterling on October 9, 1955. He took over his family farm and continued living there until 1989. He took pride in his community and dedicated time to others serving on the LaMoure County Bookmobile, High Prairie and Zoar Church councils, LaMoure Lions Club and LaMoure FMHA Board.

In retirement, Allen took on many woodworking and carpentry projects including building beautiful furniture and helping restore Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Allen enjoyed spending time with family and friends always bringing laughter and smiles to every occasion. His joyful, loving spirit will be greatly missed.

Allen is survived by his wife, Katherine of 60 years and three children, Cynthia Peterson, Pamela (Robert) Brown and Kevin (Ruth) Hodem; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and one sister, Marlene Splitt.

Visitation for Allen will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in LaMoure. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10:30 am at Zoar Lutheran Church in LaMoure.
