Professional Football Player. For ten seasons (1960 to 1969), he played at the quarterback position in the American Football League with the Houston Oilers, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs. Born Jack Ross Lee, he was raised in Akron, Ohio, where he attended Ellet High School and established himself as an all time great, three-sports athlete in basketball, baseball and football. During his collegiate years at the University of Cincinnati, Lee earned a top-10 placing in the nation as a passer and earned team MVP honors. Selected by the St. Louis Cardinals during the 6th round of the 1960 NFL Draft, he ended up with Houston of the newly-formed American Football League and experienced two AFL Championships, while serving as a backup for George Blanda. In 1961, he set a then-league record of 457 passing yards in a game against the Boston Patriots. In 1962, he set a league record 98-yard touchdown pass to Willard Dewveall in a contest against the San Diego Chargers. While with the Broncos in 1964, Lee produced a career-high 1,611 passing yards as the Broncos' majority starting quarterback. He served as a backup quarterback to Len Dawson during the Chiefs' run at the Super Bowl title in 1969. After retiring from football, Lee had a successful career in commercial real estate. He died of complications from Alzheimer's disease.
