Funeral for Velma Ruth Parker, 99, Lawton, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, in Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dave Menge officiating.
Burial will follow in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.
Velma Ruth Parker died Wednesday, May 4, 2016, in Norman.
She was born Sept. 30, 1916, in Beaver, Iowa, to Thomas and Grace Shaw. Her father was a coal miner and she lived in Minnesota until his death. The family returned to Des Moines, Iowa, and she graduated from North High School.
Mrs. Parker married retired Master Sgt. Vincent Dwight Parker on April 12, 1936, in Des Moines. When her husband retired from the Army, she began a 20-year career with the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She had many interests; among her favorites were reading and gardening. She also enjoyed cooking, needlepoint and was an accomplished seamstress. Central to everything, however, was her family.
She is survived by a son, Jim Parker, Lawton; a daughter and son-in-law, JoneÈ Parker Paul and Al, Aubrey, Texas; two grandchildren: Scott Paul and wife Stacy, and Brandi Brogdon; four great-grandchildren: Katherine, Nikki, David and Parker; one great-great-grandson, Levi; and a soon-to-be-born great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and several brothers and sisters.
