Janet Thomas Stone, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Born March 4, 1928, she was raised in Marionville, Virginia; the only child of the late C. Mercer Thomas, DVM and Florence Phoebus Thomas. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, J. Minor Stone, III. She is survived by her daughter Jan Stone Rice and husband, Ronald L. Rice and grandson Thomas Lee Rice.
Janet attended the College of William & Mary and the Pam American School. She served on the Junior Board of Southside Day Nursery, did volunteer work for many years at Chippenham and Johnston Willis Hospitals in Richmond and at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox. She was past president of the former Old Dominion Garden Club and Women of Manakin Episcopal Church and a former member of Powhatan Women’s Club. An avid Seaside fisherman and gardener, Janet was a member of Ye Accawmacke Garden Club, Virginia Historical Society, AVPA and a 70 year member of the Northampton County Chapter, NSDAR. She served on the Board of The Barrier Island Center and was a member of Hungars Episcopal Church.
A celebration of life will be held at Hungars Episcopal Church, Machipongo, Virginia on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2 pm. Burial will be private.
