Peggy Sessoms Ragland, 66, of Amherst passed away Thursday, May 05, 2016 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Edward Ragland.

Born in Raeford, NC, July 19, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Aston Morton and Mary Collins Sessoms Morton. Peggy was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. For the last several years, she enjoyed volunteering at Fairmont Crossing Nursing Home. She was always willing to help anyone. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Ragland Black and son-in-law, Dennie Wayne Black.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Michelle Ragland Bryant and her husband Thomas of Amherst; one brother, Derwood Sessoms and his wife Ruth of Holden Beach, NC; three grandchildren, Peyton and Holden Bryant and Lauren Black Newton and her husband James; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews, who loved Aunt Peggy, and her special friends, Greg and Donna Campbell.

A service celebrating her life will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at Clifford Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwayne Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, 3966 S. Amherst Hwy., Madison Heights.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the American Cancer Society.
