Mary Cerone-Trent, 87 years old, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening April 27 at her daughter’s home in Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Cerone and Lawrence Trent. She was born on June 24, 1928 in Knoxville to William and Edith Drinnon Bragg. She lived the majority of her life in Sneedville where she taught school for 43 years. During her time in Sneedville she was a member of the Sneedville First Baptist Church where she played the piano, taught Sunday School and was the YWA director for many years. She later joined First Baptist Church of Knoxville. She was an active member of the Sneedville Women’s Club for over 40 years, the Hancock County Retired Teacher Association along with other community organizations and activities. For many years she served as an election worker for the Hancock County Election Commission. She graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College, the University of Tennessee, and George Peabody College for Teachers. She returned to Knoxville in 2001 to be close to her grandchildren. Her greatest loves were playing the piano and her grandchildren.


A special thank you to Dr. Stephen Marietta her cardiologist, Dr. Michael Hill and Dr. John Short, who worked tirelessly at keeping her heathy for many years; the nurses at Parkwest Medical Center and Tia Bryan, NP

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 2 to 4 P.M. at Sneedville First Baptist Church with a celebration of her life at 4 P.M. Brother Brian Courtney officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service in the Jarvis Cemetery A celebration of her life will also be held in Knoxville at the home of her daughter on Sunday, May 15, 2016 beginning at 4 P.M. Pallbearers will be Hayden Short, Ray, Cass and James Holt, Tyler Cerone and Samuel Copeland

Honorary pallbearers will be special friends Claude Collins, David Jones, James Ramsey, Ray Joe Jarvis, Burney Jarvis, Doe Jarvis, Dennis Holt and Dr. John Short
