Samuel E. Arnold, 69, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, R.D. 1 was stricken with a fatal heart attack Thursday evening at his home. Mr. Arnold had complained of severe pain in his chest and had gone to bed to rest. His wife attempted to arouse him at 10:30 o'clock and when he failed to respond she notified her sons who immediately took the man to the Community Hospital, Sunbury. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital at 11:15 o'clock.
Mr. Arnold, a farmer, was born November 10, 1890, in Honey Grove, Juniata County. He was the son of the late George W. and May M. Batton Arnold. He was married to Effie Smith on February 12, 1912. Mr. Arnold was of the Lutheran faith.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Jesse J Arnold of Old Lyme, Conn.; Samuel M., Robert W. and Charles R Arnold, of Mount Pleasant Mills R.D.; three daughters, Mrs. Lee Varner of McAlisterville; Mrs. Martin Dillman, Fort Knox, Ky.; and Mrs. Jack Bachman of York; and 18 grandchildren. He was the last survivor of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Garman's funeral home, Mt. Pleasant Mills. Rev. George Peters, pastor of Freeburg EUB Charge will officiate. Interment will be in Saville cemetery, Ickesburg R.D. Viewing will be held Sunday evening at the funeral home.
