Paul Moon, 85, of Findlay passed away at 9:39 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at his residence after a battle with cancer. Paul was born in Fostoria, OH on July 26, 1930 and he was the youngest and last surviving child born of Frederick Leroy and Bessie (Hill) Moon. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Evelyn (Leader) Moon, who called him her Prince Charming; and a son, Paul Kenneth Moon. Paul served proudly during the Korean War as an Air Force flight engineer. He was a member of the 19th Bomber Group. Later in his life, he and his wife Doris attended reunions with surviving members from his war days, each with a license plate reading "19 BOMB" from a different state. He served as a member of the Findlay police force for 28 years, earning several commendations and receiving letters of thanks for deeds performed in the line of duty that he did not talk about much. After his retirement, he and Doris spent many years wintering in Indio, CA. During that time, Paul joined the Yankee Air Force, putting his flight engineering skills to use again in the reclamation and restoration of vintage military aircraft and visiting Raz'n Hell, the B-29 he served on during the Korean War, now on display at Castle Air Force Base in Atwater, CA. He is survived by a daughter, Pam Long of Cincinnati, OH; and a son, James (Marcie) Moon of Jenera, OH. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Corey (Andrew) Knight, Adam (Roqi) Long; James Artman, Selina Roberts, Delanie (Jared) Davis, Travis Roberts; Mathew (Mandy) Miller; Scot (Kylie) Miller and Michele Porter. Paul also leaves behind four great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters. Also special to the Moon family are Tracy, K.D., and Dakota Artman. A memorial service will be held at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay on Saturday, May 7, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Gordon Dickson officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 6, from 4-8 p.m. and from 12-3 p.m., Saturday. Full military rites will be provided by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad at Knollcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Paul's name to The Honor Flight Network at: Honor Flight, Inc.; Attn: Diane Gresse; 300 East Auburn Avenue; Springfield, OH 45505; or honorflight.org. Paul's Honor Flight in 2013, with his son Jim, was the "best trip he ever took." Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.kirkpatrickbehnke.com.
