She was born October 14, 1931, in Hartwell, Georgia, and was the daughter of the late Troy and Katherine Shultz Sanders. She was a resident of High Point for the majority of her life and retired from Melrose and Diamond Hosiery Mills. She was a member of Deep River Friends Meeting.
She is survived by her husband, John R. Thornton, whom she married on December 17, 1950; a daughter, Sandy Thornton (Van) of Chattanooga, TN; two sons, John Thornton, Jr. (Diane) of Byhalia, MS, and David Thornton (Sandra) of Walkertown.
Funeral service celebrating Jennie’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, at Deep River Friends Meeting with Pastor Scott Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow in the meeting house cemetery. (Edited by Jeff Lovelace.)
