Mr. Long was a graduate of Old Dock School and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War.
He owned and operated Long’s Seafood Restaurant from 1956-1982. He also farmed all of his life until his retirement.
He was a member of Seven Creeks Missionary Baptist Church of Nakina.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at Peacock Funeral Home. Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6 at Seven Creeks Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Turner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorcas Jenette Long of the home; one son, David Arnold Long of Nakina; two daughters, Pamela Long Stanley of Olyphic and Kimberly Long Holmes and husband, John, of Whiteville; two sisters, Maeve Duncan and husband, Pete, of Tabor City and Evelyn Jones of Whiteville; two grandchildren, Jenny Godwin and husband, Jamie, and Maggie Stanley; and one great-grandchild, Colton Godwin.
