The Louisiana Purchase Exposition Organ,1904, which Smith financed when he was compelled to take over the Murray M. Harris Organ Company in a vain attempt to recoup his investment. It was the largest pipe organ in the world and today forms the nucleus of Philadelphia's Wanamaker Organ.

"The history of the Frank L. Smith Home at 1801 York Street is an interesting one. In February of 1860, Frank Smith's father, Eben Smith, settled in Gilpin County west of Denver in Colorado's majestic High Country. Having come from California, and the California Gold Rush, Eben Smith was familiar with mining. Due to his experience in California, he was possibly the only person in the state that was familiar with extracting gold from Quartz mines. Eben Smith hired himself out as an expert to several mines and made a name for himself in the Colorado mining community.

In 1866, he was elected to the Colorado State legislature from Gilpin County.

In the previous year, 1865, the First National Bank of Denver was founded and Eben Smith was not only an investor in the bank, but he was also named president. However, because of his strong connection in mining, Smith continued his association and investments in the mining industry. In 1871, Smith's son Frank Smith was born.

By the late 1880's and early 1890's Eben Smith came to realize that a huge amounts of the slag in Colorado had been poorly processed and that a large amounts of gold and silver ore remained behind. In 1896, Eben Smith, along with his son, Frank L. Smith started the The Mine and Smelter Supply Company. The company was founded to improve the rate of recovery of gold and silver mining. The Mine and Smelter Supply Company opened branches in Salt Lake City, El Paso, Texas and even one in Mexico City. It quickly became the world's largest supplier of ore recovery equipment.

In 1891, Frank Smith commissioned a home 1801 York St. Known as the Frank Smith Home, the home was designed by William Fisher in the Richardsonian Romanesque style

According to Public Records, the Frank L. Smith Home was last sold in 1994, and was included into the National Register of Historic Places in September of 1985."
