Pvt Seafferman was born in Strausberg Germany. He enlisted into the US Army on August 11, 1860, in Lousieville, KY. He was described as 5'7" tall, hazel eyes, black hair and a ruddy complexion. His civilian occupation was tailor.

On February 4, 1861 he was assigned to Company K, 2nd US Cavalry at Camp Wood, TX.

After multiple re-enlistments, Seafferman became a member of G Company, 7th US Cavalry on July 11, 1872 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. G Company was commanded by Lt Donald McIntosh. His daily duties were listed as tailor.

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, G Company was attached to Reno's Battalion. Seafferman was killed during what was known as the Valley Fight. His remains were never identified, and he was probably buried where his body was found.

In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
