Billy Nelson McClellan

November 7, 1925 - May 4, 2016

Billy Nelson McClellan 90 of Sterling City passed away peacefully on May 4th 2016 surrounded by his loving family at home. Billy was born on November 7, 1925 in Sterling City, TX to Nelson and Lura McClellan. He graduated from Sterling City High School in 1942. Billy fought in WWII from 1943-1947 as a Corp-Sgt. He was called back to fight in the Korean War from 1950 – 1951 as a Sgt. Billy was a true Cowboy, Marine, an honest man and a good rancher.

With Billy there was no need to sign a contract – he kept his word. He did what he thought was right, loved his friends, family and work. He was a good and true steward of the land and an avid history buff. He loved and supported the Nimitz Museum as he felt it the best way to teach our TRUE HISTORY to young people, all people. Also, he felt strongly that the museum pays homage to the men and women who fought to keep our country free to worship. In the Nimitz, there is a quote by a cemetery gate:

"When you go home,
Tell them for us who died here
And say, "For your tomorrow,
We gave our all, our life, today."

Billy worked at Spade Ranch for over 60 years and lived in the bunkhouse until the age of 49 when in 1974 he married Doris Hargrove. Billy is survived by his wife of 41 years Doris, sons Ross (Sharon) McKenney and Kregg (Diana) McKenney, grandchildren Chris, Allen, Krista and David McKenney.

A graveside service was held on May 4th at Spade Community Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Sterling City on Saturday May 7th at 2:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City.
