She was born to JD Chandler and Elizabeth Matkins-Chandler in Texas. They moved to California in 1941 and was living in Kern County, Arvin, when she was diagnosed with Leukemia June 14, 1942. She lost her battle on September 16, 1942 at the age of 16 in The Kern County General Hospital.
Her brother Carroll says he remember that she was a happy girl, and that she use to always try and keep him up to listen to the music on the radio. But he would always fall asleep before it came on!
