William F. "Bill" Baumler, Jr., 94, of Stephenson, Mich., passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. He was born December 13, 1921, to the late William and Helen (Boye) Baumler in Daggett, Mich.

Bill married Phyllis Marshall, February 21, 1948 in Chicago, Ill. She preceded him in death on October 12, 1959. He then married Dorothy Meintz on August 19, 1972 in Stephenson, Mich.

Bill was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) at Camp Wells in Cedar River, Mich. from October 1941 until February 1942. He served in the United States Army during World War II from July 23, 1942 until his honorable discharge November 16, 1945. Bill was a staff sergeant with the 32nd Infantry (Red Arrow) Division. He spent 33 months overseas and was involved in three major battles in New Guinea, the Philippines and Luzon. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with five Overseas Service Bars, and the Republic of Philippines Presidential Unit Citation. Bill also boxed in the Military and later in Chicago. Following his service in the military, he worked on the Prudential Building in Chicago as a welder across from Wrigley Field. He later worked in local sawmills and in the woods. Bill was a member of VFW Post 5966. He proudly wore his WWII uniform when marching in local parades. Bill also participated in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington DC in 2007.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved animals and spoiling his grand dogs. Bill enjoyed playing cards, spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, doing yard work and cutting wood. He was a great joke teller and knew the weather like no other.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Stephenson, Mich.;
three sons: Bob (Bev) Baumler of Columbus, Wis., Dan (Autumn) Baumler of Green Bay, Wis., Bill Baumler of Stephenson, Mich.;
three daughters: Sally (Terry Parrett) Roberts of Stephenson, Mich., Kathy (Robin) Tebo of Stephenson, Mich. and Sandy (Fiancé Ray Bork) Baumler of Green Bay, Wis.;
12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren;
and one sister, Betty “Jane” Parrett of Stephenson, Mich.

Bill was preceded in death by four brothers: Art, Albert, Ferd and Wally; two sisters: Marie and Lucille; and one grandson, Jeff Roberts.

Family will receive friends at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, Mich. on Saturday, May 7, 2016 after 1 p.m. until time of Military Rites at 3 p.m. followed by Funeral Service with Pastor Archie Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Mellen Township Cemetery.
