Dorothy "Dot" Ellen Hoyt Ballard, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on May 1, 2016. She was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. Dot married the love of her life in 1953, Hugh C. Ballard, and they started their life together in Norman, Oklahoma where Hugh played football at Oklahoma University.
Dot and Hugh continued their legacy in Dallas, TX raising three sons, Byron, Brett, and Bart. They retired in Austin, TX and after 49 years of marriage, Hugh joined the Lord, and Dot moved to Marble Falls.
It is impossible to choose Dot's best attribute. She was a phenomenal mother with healing hands, an exceptional southern cook (beef stroganoff, steak and tomato gravy, and fried pork chops being the favorites of the household), an avid reader, a proud supporter of the Texas Rangers, and a true southern lady (never to be seen without lipstick and a colorful pair of Keds sneakers on her feet).
Dot was a devout follower of the Lord, and a prayer warrior for her children, family, and friends. She was a humble philanthropist to thousands in need, spending her afternoons crocheting blankets, scarves and hats to give to homeless shelters and retirement homes. She also supported the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
Dot carried a brightness inside of her that truly lit up the world. Her laugh was contagious and her love and generosity towards others could not be mistaken. The love she had for her children will be carried on through their memories of her and she will be irrevocably missed.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Maggie and Thurlow Hoyt, her husband, Hugh C Ballard, and her brother, Dwight Hoyt.
She is survived by her sons; eldest, Byron P. Ballard (and wife, Gayle), grandson Ryan Ballard (and wife, Jenna), great grandson Cashion, and grand-daughter Maggie Ballard of Oklahoma City, OK; middle son, Brett S. Ballard (and wife, Evia), granddaughter Alaina, and grandson Jacob of Marble Falls, Texas; youngest son, Bart H. Ballard (and wife, Linda) of Marble Falls, Texas; sister Kathleen Gomez, niece Mora Madonia of New Jersey, and nephew Christian Gomez of Arizona.
