US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt Rogers enlisted into the US Army on June 6, 1873, at Boston, MA. He was described as 5'8", dark hair, brown eyes with a medium complexion. His civilian occupation was clerk. On September 3, 1873, Rogers was listed as deserting from a Recruit Station. He was apprehended on September 12, 1873. On October 19, 1873, Rogers was assigned to Company L, 7th US Cavalry Regiment at Ft Lincoln, Dakota Territory. Company L was commanded by 1st Lt James Calhoun. Calhoun was the brother-in-law of LTC George A Custer and Captain Tom Custer. Rogers daily duties were assistant post baker. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company L was attached to LTC Custer's battalion. Rogers was killed during the fighting. His unidentified remains were likely first buried where they had been found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill. On April 19, 1878, Roger's widow, Emma, was awarded a survivor's pension.
