US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Pvt Omling was born in Windaciler, Bavaria, Germany. He enlisted into the US Army on December 21, 1871, at Taylor Barracks, Louisville, KY. He was described as 5'5", hazel eyes, light hair with a fair complexion. His civilian occupation was blacksmith. He was assigned to Company F, 7th US Cavalry Regiment. His daily duties were cook. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn Company F was attached to LTC George A Custer's battalion. After the battle many soldiers from Company F were found on Last Stand Hill, or in the area of the Deep Ravine. Omling's body was not identified. It is likely that his unidentified remains were buried where they had been found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
