Arthur Parke Abbott, 84, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Lancaster County, died of natural causes Aug 7 at Leesburg Regional Medical Center. Known as "Bud," Mr. Abbott worked in management with the former Bell Telephone Co. He retired in 1975 after 30 years. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served as a sonarman aboard the USS Black during World War II. He was a 1940 graduate of McCaskey High School. He was a member of National Rifle Association, Telephone Pioneers and Traveler's Protective Association. He was also a lifetime member of Eustis (Fla.) Elks Club 1578. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. Born in Conestoga, he was the son of the late Norris Leonard Abbott and Ellen Campbell Abbot Forrest Dagan. His wife was the late E. Jane Wurster Abbott. Surviving are a son, William Alan, husband of Ardythe Abbot of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Gwen, wife of J.T. Clevenger of Lancaster; four grandchildren; a half brother, William Forrest of Lancaster; and a step sister, Betty Marshall of Hapeville, Ga. (Lancaster New Era - Aug 31, 2004)
