Major League Baseball Player. After playing collegiate baseball at St. John's University, he spent nine seasons in the major leagues as an outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, and Boston Red Sox. Gilhooley made his professional debut at the age of 19 in 1911. He appeared in 312 games during his big league career finishing with two home runs, 289 hits and a lifetime .271 batting average.
