Darrell D. Murphy, 74, of Hamilton, Ill., died at his home.

Born in Missouri, he was the son of Dewey Dexter and Daisy Mildred Lovell Murphy. On July 30, 1954, he married Ardith Marie Young in Ferris, Ill.

He graduated from Carthage (Ill.) High School in 1950. He served in the Army from 1952–1955 and belonged to the 11th Airborne Paratroopers and Rangers. He worked in the laboratory at Shellor Globe in Keokuk. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid Cardinal's fan.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Donna Hellyer of Plymouth, Ill.; three sons, Michael Murphy of Carthage, Mark Murphy of Ferris and Christopher Murphy of Hamilton; 12 grandchildren; and two great–grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Graveside funeral services were held at Golden's Point Church, north of Hamilton. Flag presentation by the Hamilton Veterans of Foreign Wars were conducted at the graveside.
