US Congressman. He graduated from Mississippi College, the University of Mississippi and Cumberland University's law department. He became an attorney in Meridian and served as Lauderdale County's District Attorney from 1910 to 1915. From 1915 to 1916 Venable was a District Court Judge. In 1915 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat, filling the vacancy caused by the death of Samuel A. Witherspoon. He was reelected twice and served from 1916 to 1921. After running unsuccessfully for reelection in 1920 he practiced law in Clarksdale and served as President of the Mississippi Bar Association.
