Funeral services for Michael Allen Cherry, of Athens, will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Dean officiating. Services are under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Mr. Cherry went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 10, 2016.

Michael Cherry was born on March 25, 1955 in Athens to Frank Baker and YNell Whittington Baker. He loved reading and going to McDonalds. Michael loved cars, especially red pickup trucks. He was a wonderful son, brother and cousin, and will be missed by everyone he knew and loved.


He was preceded in death by his father; his brother Pete Rula, Jr.; and his grandparents, JA Whittington and Eva Whittington.

He is survived by his mother Nell Baker of Athens; sisters, Lynda Perez and husband Jerry of Shreveport, LA and Judy Jock and husband Sam of Amarillo; aunt Sue Wilson of Athens; uncle Horace Whittington of Bonham; cousin and caregiver Sheri Richardson, and cousin David Cole.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
