"Cynthia Crain Ruffin Holmes entered eternal life on Friday, April 29, 2016. Her gentle and kind spirit is carried on by her three children, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four surviving siblings and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. We were blessed to learn many valuable life lessons from Cynthia during her 87 years!

Cynthia was born to John F. and Marietta Moody Ruffin in Hattiesburg on August 15, 1928. She and her four younger sisters grew up in Hattiesburg where she attended Hattiesburg High School and was a "beauty" her senior year. She then attended the University of Mississippi where she became a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority making many lifelong friends. Upon returning to Hattiesburg, she married her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) L. Holmes, Jr. Cynthia and Bill were lifelong members at Bay Street Presbyterian Church where Cynthia served as Financial Secretary for 44 years. She was also a member of the Pine Burr Club.

Cynthia valued her family and many friends. She loved capturing memories through pictures of her family and friends and they adorned her home! She is predeceased in death by her husband of 47 years, Bill Holmes and is survived by her children Cindy Payne (Michael Underwood) of Knoxville, TN, Mary Catherine Bilton-Smith of Hattiesburg, and William Louis Holmes, III (Coppie) of Saltillo, MS; her grandchildren Abb Payne, Braden Holmes, Anna Catherine Holmes and Will Holmes; her great-grandchildren Ford Payne, Arden Payne, Payge Holmes and Reverdy Holmes; her siblings Lelia Wilson, Mary June Saucier, Floy Ruffin and Madelyn Bradley; and too many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends to list but not be forgotten.

Friends and family are encouraged to join us on Thursday, May 5th to celebrate her life at visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m. at Bay Street Presbyterian Church.
