This is an entry I never wanted to have to write. This is my mother and she is going to be missed so much. I don't know what I'm going to do without her.

Although I am sad she is gone, I am also happy for her. She was paraplegic due to a surgery to remove a tumor from inside her spine in 2008. It basically took her life. Since that time, it was one thing after another with her health. She was in pain all the time. Then on May 1, 2016, she just stopped breathing.

Our Mother, Carol Nelson, age 76, returned to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on May 1, 2016. She was surrounded by family.

She was best known for her kind heart and her giving and loving nature. She loved to crochet and would make the most beautiful doilies for friends and family. If someone mentioned how beautiful a doily was that she was working on, the next thing you know is she would say, “Oh, thank you. What color would you like on your doily?” She loved making doilies for people. It made her smile when people enjoyed what she made. She was known to some as “The Doily Lady”.

Before she became paraplegic in 2008, she loved to dance and spend time with family and friends. Mom loved her family a great deal. She felt they were a gift from God. The last while during her illness she mentioned this quite a lot. She talked about how proud she was of all of us kids and how much she loved us. She mentioned over and again how we were all gifts from God. That meant a lot to us. Mom was a wonderful person and we love her so much.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) and loved the Lord with all her heart. She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. She would share her testimony with all who would listen. It was important to her that people knew about the church as well. During her years of being invalid, she would still share her testimony and talk to people even in the hospital about the gospel. She was strong in her beliefs.

Our mother loved people. She could meet someone in a store line and become friends and end up putting them on her Christmas card list and they would be friends for life. Every year for many years she would send 500-600 Christmas cards with a personal note written inside to all of her friends and family. People would send Christmas cards back to her and those cards would be put on strings that would surround the living room--sometimes four rows tall. This was a fond memory and one we’re glad that we had with our mother. She will be missed dearly by her children and all those who knew her.

Services for Carol will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint at: 6901 224th St. E. Spanaway, WA 98387-5134.
