US Soldier killed at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Moore enlisted into the US Army on January 23, 1872, in Philadelphia, PA. He was described as 5'8", blue eyes, dark hair with a fair complexion. His civilian occupation was carpenter. On February 26, 1872, Moore was assigned to Company G, 7th US Cavalry Regiment at Spartanburg, SC. His duties were quartermaster carpenter and teamster. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company G was assigned to Major Marcus Reno's battalion. When the battalion retreated from a wooded area during the Valley Fight, Moore was one of 20 men unintentionally left behind. He eventually made it to the defenses on Reno Hill. While fighting on the hill, Moore was shot through the back and both kidneys. He died the next day. Moore was likely buried on Reno Hill. In 1881, all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
