Marion Richardson was the first of ten children born to Albert and Mary Smith on September 12, 1929. Living on the south side of Leavenworth she attended Summer elementary school until the family moved to the north side where she attended Lincoln elementary school. As a teenager she assisted her parents by becoming a homemaker to elderly families. She also step in as a mother figure to many of her younger siblings when their own mother became ill and was unable to care for them. This nurturing continued toward her brothers and sisters as she become a mother herself. Her wiliness to continue in this aspect to her first family, regardless of how many children she had, was shown when one of her sisters was ill and she made the long journey to California to see about her; leaving her own children behind. This adventure is what sparked her love to travel so her first vacation, taking her youngest three children, was to visit another sister in Washington; ending with an out of county visit to Canada. Not only was her nurturing skills beneficial to her immediate family, but her dedication in helping others was displayed when she started an out-reach program, with her sister, by sharing her sewing skills to teach young mothers how to economically provide for their families. Due to her father’s biblical research, she followed in his footsteps and joined the Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist church on August 23, 1975; shortly after their new church dedication on December 9, 1972. In her early years she served as a deaconess and later as the ‘mother of the church’ her life-long skill in nurturing continued as she dedicated her time spreading the love of God through hugs, smiles and kisses to all who entered into the churches’ doors. Her strong will attitude would never let her quit until she had finished what she started. A prime example of this attitude was her foot soldier marching all through Leavenworth; even with her walker! Visitation will be 11 AM to 12 PM, Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Seventh Day Shiloh, with the funeral service at 12 PM. Burial will follow in the Mount Muncie Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel.
