Melvin Leslie Dudley, 85, of Waverly, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016. He was surrounded by all four of his children. Melvin was born in Lincoln to James Clarence Dudley and Clara Louise (Welsch) Dudley.

Melvin was a graduate of Lincoln Northeast High School in the class of 1948. He later joined the Nebraska Army national guard in the 43rd Army band as a trumpet player where he served on active duty in Alaska during the Korean war.

He worked for General Tobacco & Candy Co. as a delivery driver and then with Burroughs/Unisys Corp. where early on he maintained and repaired mechanical adding machines and later large book-keeping computers for banks and insurance companies.

After retirement, Melvin kept busy fixing and selling used cars at his home in Waverly as Dud's Motor Shop. Along with his brother, Marvin, he raced boats on Oak Lake and other lakes around the Lincoln area.

In the late 40s, he and Marvin joined efforts to purchase a cabin on the North Lake at South Bend, Many decades were spent there with family and friends boating, skiing, swimming and fishing during the summers.

Melvin also loved to sing and later in life, he joined the Lincoln Continentals. He was a member of the Lincoln Elks Club. He bowled on several leagues and was the very first person to bowl a perfect game of 300 at Plaza Bowling Alley on March, 3, 1963.

Melvin was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Janice Rorbaugh; brother, Marvin; sister, Phyllis Albert; two infant brothers; sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws; wife of 56 years, Greta A. (Anderson) Dudley; and two infant grandchildren, Clara and Jessica.

He is survived by: children, Melisa A. Haessler (Ward), Douglas J. Dudley (Kathleen), Gregory A. Dudley, and Cynthia A. Mendoza (Jacob); grandchildren, BreAnna (Chaz), Jayson, Jazmine and Taylor; step-grandchildren Nicole (Brandon) and Corey; and great-grandchildren, Zoephia and Jayce.

Funeral service on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at First United Methodist Church of Waverly. Burial at Rosehill Cemetery in Waverly.
