Ronald D. Hickerson, 68, a lifelong resident of Crothersville, passed away peacefully Thursday night, April 28, 2016, at his home.
Born Aug. 5, 1947, in Anderson, he was the son of Miles, who preceded him in death, and Frances "Ilean" Walker Hickerson, who survives in Crothersville.
Ronnie attended Crothersville High School through his sophomore year and remained an avid supporter of Tiger basketball. Never married, Ronnie was a sports fan who passionately supported Indianapolis Colts football, Cincinnati Reds baseball and Indiana Pacers basketball, rarely missing a game on TV. He also enjoyed "eating mom's cooking," playing dominoes and old solitaire computer games and communicating with family and friends with lengthy phone calls, email and Facebook. A social butterfly, Ronnie always considered everyone he met a friend.
Besides his beloved mother, survivors include his brother, James (Marina) Hickerson of Fishers; nephews, John Hickerson of Muncie and Eric Hickerson of Fishers; his uncles, Jim (Maribel) Hickerson of Crothersville, Billy (Barb) Hickerson of South Carolina and Raymond Moore of Scottsburg; aunts, Harriett Hickerson of Crothersville, Virginia Hickerson of Wilkinson and Marie Hall of Whiteland; and dozens and dozens of cousins across many states.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Palmer and Gladys Montgomery Hickerson; maternal grandparents, Ed and Vesta Deputy Walker; uncles, Bob Hickerson, Palmer Hickerson Jr., Jack Hickerson and Val Hall; and aunts, infant Betty Lee Hickerson, Mabel (Asberry) Riley, Dorothy (Bill) Havener, Betty (Tom) Ferris, Jean Moore and Blanch (Everet) Ross.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Adams Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Crothersville with the Rev. Bud Walther officiating. Burial will be at Crothersville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
