NEWBY, David Russell, a native of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully on April 29, 2016, at age 92. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Musette Newby; and brother, Malcolm Newby. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Tatiana; two daughters, Joanna Hamnett (Bill) and Cristina Morris (Bobby); four grandsons, William L. Hamnett III (Eliza), David Russell Hamnett (Devon), Matthew Newby Hamnett (Annie) and Christopher Sangster; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Sadie, Will and Harper; and his faithful companion, Sparky. He served his country proudly during World War II as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army stationed in Italy. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, after many years of employment. David, a true Renaissance man, enjoyed painting, cooking, woodworking, gardening, traveling, reading and enjoying time spent with his family. A visitation will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond, Va. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VMFA or Bon Secours Hospice, 7229 Forest Ave., Suite 200, Richmond, Va. 23226.
