Pvt Lloyd enlisted into the US Army at Pittsburgh PA on September 30, 1873. He was described as 5'6", gray eyes, light hair & a fair complexion. His listed civilian occupation was engineer.

On October 23, 1873, Lloyd reported for duty at Ft Totten in the Dakota Territory & was assigned to Company I, 7th US Cavalry. Company I was commanded by Capt Myles Keogh.

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn Company I was attached to LTC George Armstrong Custer's battalion. Sometime during the fighting Lloyd was killed.

Two days after the battle most of Company I was found in the area between Calhoun Ridge and Last Stand Hill.

Lloyd's unidentified remains were likely first buried where they had been found. In 1881, all known battlefied burials were reburied in the mass grave on top of Last Stand Hill.
