Pvt Liemann enlisted into the US Army at Cincinnatis OH on January 30, 1872. He was described as 5'5", brown eyes, black hair with a dark complexion. His listed civilian occupation was painter.

Liemann was also had several aliases: Luman, Lunden & Lieman.

On December 1, 1872, Liemann reported for duty at Louisville KY & was assigned to Company F, 7th U.S. Cavalry. His daily duties were listed as company cook & company quartermaster.

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn Company F was attached to Custer's battalion. Liemann was killed sometime during the battle.

Two days after the battle members of a burial detail, who knew Liemann, reportedly observed his body on Last Stand Hill not far from several other soldiers from Company F.

Liemann was likely first buried where he had been found.
In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
