Barbara Jean Gentry, 80, of Palmyra, Va., went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2016. She joins her husband of 63 years, Melvin L. Gentry, in Heaven. She was born October 22, 1935, to the late Allie P. and Evelyn Swain.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Swain; her brother, Wayne Swain; and her son, Larry W. Gentry.
Her kind heart deeply touched all that knew her, even briefly, and because of that she had many friends. She was a devoted employee of Comdial for 47 years, where she retired, and she loved everyone there. Her favorite things to do were spending time with her family and attending Lake Christian Church every Sunday, where she was baptized in later life.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Gary Gentry, Bret Gentry and wife, Marie, and Tim Gentry and wife, Beth; daughter-in-law, Teresa Gentry; sisters-in-law, Pam Swain, Mary Jane Larson, and Fannie Colvin; brothers-in-law, Nelson Gentry, and Hobart Addington; grandchildren, Billy Gentry, Brandi Gentry Sites and Dewey, Ashley Gentry, Kristen Gentry, Katie Gentry, and Tyler Gentry; and great grandchildren, Makayla, Taylor, and Drake Sites.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Holly Memorial Gardens with Mr. Chris Long officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
