Funeral Services for Mr. Christopher Humphrey, 67, Daytona Bch, who entered into eternal rest on April 21, 2016 with his loved ones at his side, will be 2 PM, Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Living Faith World Ministries, with Associate Pastor Zachary Russell, delivering the main eulogy. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5-8:30 PM, Fri, Apr 29, at RJ Gainous Funeral Home and from 12:30 PM until service time at the church on Saturday.

Mr. Humphrey, affectionately known as "Coach Humphrey" was born on June 12, 1948 in Daytona Beach. He attended Bonner Elementary School and the former Campbell Street High School. Although he played various sports in high school, he soon developed a genuine love for the game of football. He would later go on to coach Pop Warner Little League Football, sharing both his knowledge and love for the sport with the many youth living in the Daytona Beach area.

Chris' favorite saying was "A winner never quits and a quitter never wins". (Chris did love to win.) In 1977 Chris was employed by the City of Daytona Beach and worked in the Waste Water Department. In 1986 he and Sybrena were married and they became the proud parents of Erik Jerarde in 1987.

Later that year the family relocated to Baltimore, MD where he worked various jobs until he was employed by the State of Maryland Correctional Division in 1991. After 15 years of dedicated service he retired and once again entered the coaching arena, this time passing on his passion for the game of football to his beloved son Erik. In 2007, Chris and his family relocated back to Daytona Bch and for a very short time he was employed by the Salvation Army. Again, Chris entered retirement and began to enjoy the benefits of being a grandfather. He cherished every moment he spent with his children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mattie Humphrey; brothers: Wilbur Humphrey, James Humphrey, C. Lawrence Humphrey; and a sister: Martha J. Humphrey.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sybrena and their son, Erik; 5 grandchildren: Ariyanna, Jaylen, Emyiah, Elesia and Kash; 2 sisters-in-law: Gwendolyn Wheeler (John) Baltimore, MD, and Georgia Humphrey; 4 brothers: Charlie (Jean) Humphrey, Fayette, Alabama, Willie J. (Darlene) Humphrey, Boston, MA, Willie Andrew Humphrey, Paul Humphrey, Johnie Humphrey; a sister: Minnie Jordan, all of Daytona Bch; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Chris will always be remembered for his loving ways. His loyalty to family and friends will never be forgotten. He was a good natured man and we will keep him in our hearts forever.
