Pvt Lehman was born in Bern Switzerland.

He enlisted into the US Army on October 17, 1871 at Louisville KY. He was described as 5'7", blue eyes, light hair & a fair complexion. His listed civilian occupation was upholsterer.

Lehman was assigned to Company I, 7th US Cavalry. Company I was commanded by Capt Myles Keogh.

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn Company I was attached to LTC George Armstrong Custer's battalion. Lehman was killed sometime during the fighting.

Two days after the battle most of Company I was found in an area between Calhoun Hill & Last Stand Hill.

Lehman's unidentified remains were likely first buried where they had been found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
