US Soldier killed at the The Battle of the Little Big Horn. Kramer enlisted into the US Army on October 7, 1875, at Cincinnati, OH. He was described as 5'5", gray eyes, brown hair with a ruddy complexion. His civilian occupation was listed as painter. On October 21, 1875, Kramer reported for duty at Ft Lincoln, Dakota Territory. He was assigned to Company C, 7th US Cavalry Regiment. Company C was commanded by two time Medal of Honor recipient and LTC George A Custer's brother. Captain Tom Custer. Kramer was the bugler for Company C. At the Battle of the Little Bighorn Company C was attached to LTC Custer's battalion. Kramer was killed sometime during the fighting. Two days after the battle most of Company C was found on what had been the flanks of Company L on Calhoun Ridge. Kramer's unidentified remains were likely first buried where they had been found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill. Kramer was survived by his wife, Elnora, and a son, Orren. They were awarded a survivor's pension on February 21, 1879.
