Violet Virginia Reiser was born April 30, 1915, in Washburn, N.D., the daughter of Edward and Lydia (Mittleider) Reiser. She attended rural school near Washburn. As a young woman, she worked as a homemaker for area farmers and ranchers, cleaning homes and cooking hot meals. She married Edward Schuler on July 29, 1936, in Tuttle. The couple made their home in Tuttle, and moved to her parents farm northeast of Washburn in 1938.

In 1939, they moved to a farm seven miles southeast of Washburn. They moved to Bismarck in 1951, where Violet worked as a housekeeper for many of Bismarck's most prestigious citizens. After 12 years of living in Bismarck, they returned to their farm near Washburn. In 1974, they moved into the city of Washburn. Vi managed the Washburn Hotel, and worked as a cook for the Coffee Cup Cafe in Washburn for a number of years. Ed passed away on Aug. 10, 1995.

Violet enjoyed cooking and baking. She was known for her trademark caramel rolls and ethnic German dishes. Vi loved to spend time outdoors, maintaining her garden full of vegetables and flowers. She enjoyed fishing, camping and gathering unique rock formations for her collection. She also took pride in her ability to crochet, making afghans for many of her family members. Violet was a long-time member of the Washburn Senior Center. She was currently a resident of the Christopher House care center in Denver.

She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Ronald and Lucretia Schuler, Prescott Valley, Ariz., Earl and Virginia Schuler, Pine City, Minn., Eugene and Judy Schuler, Coon Rapids, Minn., Paul Schuler, Englewood, Colo., and James and Dixie Schuler, Golden, Colo.; two daughters, Betty Warner, Wheat Ridge, and Dee Nay, Denver; 31 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bennie Reiser, Hartley, Iowa, and Calvin Reiser, Washburn; three sisters, Freda Arnold, Rockford, Ill., Marge (Pete) Arlt, Libby, Mont., and Erma Carlson, Underwood; and many nieces and nephews.
