Lucinda Elizabeth Smith, b. June 1, 1842 at San Antonio, TX. She d. at San Antonio Jan. 1, 1925. Per her TX Death Certificate provided by dau. Lucy Josephine Newton of San Antonio, Lucinda's parents were "John W. Smith and Josephine Delgado." Other material states Lucinda's mother was Mary deJesus (Curbelo)(Smith) Lee. Lucy Josephine Newton was 15 years old when Mary deJesus Lee died at San Antonio. Unless Lucy Josephine Newton was materially mistaken about the identity of her own maternal grandmother, the memorialist is not inclined to link Lucinda to her otherwise claimed parents until further information and proof becomes available. There is already apparent confusion regarding the structure of the John William Smith family as it currently appears on Find-a-Grave.

On June 26, 1867 at San Antonio, Lucinda m. Henry Martyn Newton, b. Dec. 22, 1834 at the "Forks of the Illinois" mission station to the Cherokee Indians (located at or near present-day Park Hill, Cherokee County, Oklahoma), s. of Rev. Samuel Newton and Mary Hunt McCarty. He d. Jan. 31, 1918 at San Antonio, TX. They had five children b. at San Antonio who are (will be) outlined in their father's memorial.
