Pvt Hetesimer enlisted into the army at Cincinnati OH on October 6, 1875. He was described as 5'7", black hair, black eyes & a dark complexion. His listed civilian occupation was barber.

On October 21, 1875, Hetesimer reported for duty at Ft Lincoln in the Dakota Territory & was assigned to Company I, 7th US Cavalry. Company I was commanded by Capt Myles Keogh.

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn Company I was attached to LTC George Armstrong Custer's battalion. Hetesimer was killed sometime during the fighting.

Two days after the battle most of the Company I was found in an area between Calhoun Hill and Last Stand Hill.

Hetesimer's unidentified remains were likely first buried where they had been found. In 1881 alll known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
