Corporal Harrison enlisted into the US Army on October 9, 1866 in Boston MA. His civilian occupation was sailor. Harrison was described as having hazel eyes, light hair, fair complexion & 5'6".

On May 15, 1866, Harrison reported for duty at Ft Jefferson FL & was assigned to Company I, 5th US Artillery. He was discharged from the army on September 26, 1870, when his enlistment expired. On September 26, 1870, Harrison reenlisted into the army at Milwaukee WI.

On November 10, 1870, Harrison reported for duty at Ft Stevenson, Dakota Territory & was assigned to E Company 17th US Infantry. When his second enlistment expired, Harrison reenlisted into L Company, 7th US Cavalry at Ft Totten, Dakota Territory. L Company was commanded by 1st Lt James Calhoun, LTC George A Custer's & Capt Tom Custer's brother-in-law.

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn L Company was attached to Custer's battalion. Harrison was killed during the fighting.

Two days after the battle, most of L Company was found on or near what later became known as Calhoun Ridge & Calhoun Hill.

It is likely Harrison's unidentified remains were first buried where they had been found. In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
