William "Old Billie" YORK married a second time on 26 Jan 1805 in Burke County, North Carolina to Catharine SMITH. They had the following children:

TWO OF THESE CHILDREN ARE NOT FROM THE SECOND MARRIAGE OF William "Old Billie" YORK. 1. ASA YORK AND 4. JOHN GRATISON YORK ARE CHILDREN OF WILLIAM YORK BORN 1762, CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA WHO LIVED AND DIED ON 06 Sep 1839 IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, GEORGIA....DENNIS YORK,FAG#47405652; 9 JUNE 2017

1. ASA YORK was born about 1805 in Franklin County, Georgia. He died in 1870 in Current Township, Dent County, Missouri. He married Rhoda Elizabeth RAMSEY about 1824 in Franklin County, Georgia. She was born in 1804 in Franklin County, Georgia. She died in 1870 in Current Township, Dent County, Missouri.

Notes for Asa YORK:

To: [email protected]
I found your e-mail address when looking for descendants of Asa York. Do you know anything about the children of Asa York and Rhoda Ramsey?

I think I am descended from their daughter Harriet York who married George W. Dunn in Dent County Mo in 1871.

If you can give me any information about Asa, I would appreciate it. I know he had a second marriage so I need to know when Rhoda passed away. Do you know where she is buried? Respectfully, Dorothy Boynton Date: Thu, 22 May 2003 18:27:54 -0700 (PDT)

David, I have continued to research Asa York and what I have been able to discover is:

He DID NOT have a second marriage as published widely. That marriage belonged to his son, Asa Jr. or Asse or Osse as found on census records of family. So the last time I find Asa and Rhoad is the 1870 census for Dent County, MO. I am going to try to make a trip to Dent Co., this summer but I am told that the head stones in the York plot are in disarray but that Asa and Rhoda are suppose to be buried there.

I have found him on the 1830, 40 Franklin Co., GA census and 1850 Coffee Co., TN census and then in 1860 and 70 in Dent Co., MO. The problem with his children is that they were identified mostly as initials on the 1850 census.

I have sorta come to the conclusion that Asa had a brother John Gratison York. He had children but I only know the name of one son. John died in the Civil War while serving as a Chaplin. He was living still in GA but died out of state. I have corresponded with a descendant of his and she does not positively identify his parents. I have found reference on the internet to his parent being a James York and also a Williams York supposedly from Surry Co., NC with wife Nancy. I have searched and I certainly cannot find the names of parents.

The data lists Asa and John G. York as being born in Franklin Ga in 1805 and 1811 respectfully. I have been to the library today and found no record of anyone living in that county named York except a James and I cannot trace him. But if the sons were born in Ga then the mother had to be there at least.

I am descended from Asa York's daughter Harriet York. There seems to be some data on her sisters Sarah and Nancy and brother David Lipscomb but certainly not much on my Harriet. She married in Dent Co., in 1871 according to marriage record and then I can find nothing of them till the 1880 census for Wright Co., MO. She then, as family hand me down history records, died in childbirth on the bank of the White River somewhere between MO and AR. She and the stillborn child were simply buried and the father and children continued on their way to Texas supposedly. I can trace all of her sons from that marriage but not the two daughters because I don't know married names. Her husband was not such a nice man I think and I can find nothing of them for ten years but they then show up in 1895 in Garvin Co., OK with a new wife and new family of children. My grandfather was one of her sons, James A. Dunn, and he was 11 when his mother died.

I did find the Rhoda Ramsey but I am confused as to whether she was Rhoda Elizabeth or just Rhoda. I found listings that had them as two different children and then one that had Rhoda as Rhoda Elizabeth. db

I found listings that had them as two different children and then one that had Rhoda as Rhoda Elizabeth. db
