Bernard Patrick Kiernan, 94, a former resident of Elkins Avenue, Elkins, and more recently a resident of Talbott Personal Care Home at Belington, departed this life early Friday evening, Nov. 21, 2008, at the nursing home.

He was born Tuesday, March 3, 1914, at Clarksburg, a son of the late Bernard Patrick Kiernan and Gail Jordan Kiernan.

He was married to the former Mildred Mozella Nye, who preceded him in death Nov. 18, 1959.

Surviving are three granddaughters, Rhonda Simmons Dye and husband, Doug, Brenda Simmons Colter and husband, Michael, all of Florida, and Diana Simmons "Deedle" Hannah and husband, Gary, of Elkins; and four great-grandchildren, Thomas Allen Dye, Aidan James Dye, Kayelynn Sue Cooper and Izaac Michael Levi Hannah.

Preceding him in death were one daughter, Constance Kaye "Connie" Simmons; three sisters, Glada, Velva and Daisy; and one grandson, Michael Keith Simmons.

He attended the schools of Harrison County, was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, was a fire inspector for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He was an avid train collector, bird watcher and gandener and was a member of the Resurrection Catholic Mission at Belington.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.

Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m.

Pastor Leon Brown will officiate and interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Ave., Belington, W.Va. 26250.
