Sarah was born in Rahoon Townland, Rahoon Parish, Galway, Ireland. She came to Nashville with her parents and siblings at about the age of 14 years. Her native language was Irish. She married an engineer on the NSTLC Railroad. The ceremony was held at St. Mary's of the Seven Sorrows Catholic Church in downtown Nashville. The couple moved to Tracy City, TN where they raised four children. Sarah never returned to Nashville, but when she died her funeral was also held at St. Marys.

Pallbearers at Sarah Mulloy's funeral included her nephews: John and James Mulloy sons of brother M.J. Mulloy; Wm. Bolton, son of sister Julia M. Bolton; Thomas McHugh, son of sister Mary M. McHugh; great-nephews William and Martin Mulloy, sons of nephew Martin James Mulloy; and George Patten and Richard Connors, sons-in-law of brother Patrick Jr. Mulloy.
